Enlarged heart

An enlarged heart is a result of an underlying medical condition. Certain conditions can cause the heart muscle to abnormally stretch or thicken, resulting in the size of one or more of the heart chambers to grow.

The Prenuvo scan is designed as a comprehensive whole-body MRI for general health screening. Because it does not use cardiac-gated imaging—a technique that times image capture with the heartbeat—normal heart motion can cause some natural blurring on the images. This means the scan can show the general structure of the heart but isn’t intended for precise measurement of heart or chamber size.

During the scan, you lie on your back and briefly hold your breath at the end of exhalation. These factors can sometimes make the heart appear slightly larger in proportion to the chest, which may limit the use of standard ratio-based methods (like the cardiothoracic ratio) for assessing heart enlargement on Prenuvo scans.

In some cases, the Prenuvo scan may opportunistically detect certain heart-related conditions, such as obvious cardiac enlargement or other structural changes. However, it is not a replacement for dedicated cardiac imaging or clinical evaluations when those are recommended or indicated by symptoms, medical history, or standard targeted screening guidelines.

*Prenuvo scans are not designed to evaluate the heart, however some cardiovascular condition can be detected.
