Effusion of the pelvis and hips
A joint effusion is an abnormal collection of fluid located in the joint space. It is commonly referred to as a 'swollen joint'.In the hip, these joint effusions are difficult to identify due to the fact that the joint is deep in the body and thus the fluid cannot be felt with a physical exam.
