How it works
An all-in-one solution combining the power of whole body MRI with convenient lab testing
The Prenuvo Body Composition report is generated by our FDA-cleared medical device software that uses a non-adaptive AI/Machine Learning algorithm to provide body composition information.
Our brain health protocol includes advanced imaging sequences, such as 3D high-resolution T1-weighted, T2-weighted, and FLAIR (Fluid-Attenuated Inversion Recovery), as well as Susceptibility-Weighted Imaging (SWI) and Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL), to provide enhanced insights into brain structure and function, plus a volumetric analysis.
After an initial screening to determine the appropriateness of the test, your labs will be ordered by a Prenuvo provider, with the convenience of self-scheduling home phlebotomy services. After receiving lab orders, look for instructions to schedule your home blood draw. A Prenuvo provider will review your results with your comprehensive MRI findings.

Frequently asked questions
The Enhanced Screening is not suitable for patients who are not suitable for MRI procedures, including:
- Patients with implanted metal devices that are not MRI-compatible (e.g., older pacemakers, defibrillators, or certain aneurysm clips)
- Patients with metallic foreign objects in their bodies (e.g., shrapnel, or metal fragments in the eye)
- Patients with severe claustrophobia, unless sedation is possible
- Pregnant women
- Patients who cannot lie still or follow instructions, with conditions such as severe anxiety, Parkinson’s Disease, movement disorders
- Patients ages younger than 18 or patients with cognitive impairment
If you have certain medical conditions, the Body Composition or Brain Volume Assessment reports may be inaccurate. These conditions include, but are not limited to, the following:
For Body Composition Analysis
- Hemochromatosis or hemosiderosis of the liver
- History of a liver transplant
- Situs inversus (a rare condition where major organs are reversed from their normal positions)
- Numerous liver cysts, polycystic liver disease, autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) with liver cysts, or Caroli disease (a rare disorder affecting the bile ducts)
- Sickle Cell Disease or Gaucher’s disease
- A muscle-wasting disease or a lipodystrophy
- A splenic rupture within the last 12 months
For Brain Volume Assessment
- Severe neuroanatomical distortion (e.g., tumors, cysts, or other lesions with mass effect)
- Severe atrophy & advanced neurodegeneration
- Prior brain surgery, including shunts
- Traumatic brain injury
- Congenital or developmental conditions
Preparation for the MRI is the same as for our comprehensive whole body MRI. We recommend you fast for at least 4 hours before your scan and arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. You can drink water, tea or black coffee. You will be in the MRI machine for up to 75 mins, so we recommend that you visit the restroom before going into the machine.
To prepare for your in home lab draw, we also recommend fasting for at least 4 hours before your phlebotomist appointment. Being well-hydrated is essential, as dehydration can make veins more difficult to access and increase the likelihood of clotting during the draw. Drinking plenty of water before your appointment helps ensure a smoother experience.
Our enhanced package includes laboratory testing designed to provide deeper insights into your overall health. The screening covers multiple key health areas:
- Cardiovascular Health: Assesses cholesterol levels, inflammation, and heart disease risk markers. Includes:

- Lipoprotein(a)
- Thyroid Health: Evaluates thyroid function and potential autoimmune thyroid disorders. Includes:
- Thyroid Panel with TSH (T3 Uptake, Free T4, Total T4, TSH)
- Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody (TPO)
- Autoimmune Markers: Screens for signs of autoimmune activity. Includes:
- Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA) Screen, Pattern, and Titer

Our body composition analysis uses MRI to generate body composition measurements, which research suggests1 offers superior accuracy for measurements like visceral, subcutaneous and liver fat volume and muscle volume - without exposure to harmful ionizing radiation. MRI provides a more precise three-dimensional image of soft tissues like fat and muscle, while DEXA primarily measures bone density and provides a less detailed breakdown of body composition. A DEXA scan also exposes patients to a small amount of radiation. While the amount of radiation exposure from a DEXA scan is very low compared to other imaging tests, it can be something to consider if you are getting scanned frequently or seeking to minimize overall radiation exposure.

To prepare for your in-home lab draw, we recommend fasting for at least 4 hours before your phlebotomist appointment. Being well-hydrated is essential, as dehydration can make veins more difficult to access and increase the likelihood of clotting during the draw. Drinking plenty of water before your appointment helps ensure a smoother experience.
Your results will be shared once all portions of your Enhanced Screening assessment are complete (usually within 3-4 weeks). In some cases, it may take longer for a certain part of your Enhanced Screening to return results, such as the lab work. In these scenarios, your results will be released when all results of your Enhanced Screening are finalized. If you have a critical or urgent result that requires timely medical follow up, you will be notified as soon as that result is made available.
