Hypertensive microangiopathy
Hypertensive microangiopathy occurs as a result of long term elevated blood pressure. It is evidenced by microhemorrhages of the small blood vessels of the brain, (which is why it is sometimes called hemorrhagic hypertensive microangiopathy). This damages the white matter of the brain. Hypertensive microangiopathy is more commonly seen in people over the age of 60.
